Lyrics and music by Tim Hall of Tim Hall and Buffalo Country
Lyrics
So I’m an old man standing in this church, saying the Lord‘s prayer until it hurts. Thinking to myself how do I know this prayer, and how have these words always been there.
Then I’m reminded of the ninth grade or was it the 10th? When a football coach had taught us to pray. In many ways, praying was part of the game, as we took the field with no fear, and the power of God, we were ready to play.
Chorus
It gave us some focus as we became one. To say it to the Father and to the Son. Now fifty years later, football still applies but it’s that prayer in our hearts that’s kept us alive.
We were maroon and silver high school Spar-tans but now we’re the Kingdom the power, and glory, forever, Amen.
Chorus
It gave us some focus as we became one. To say it to the Father and to the Son. Now fifty years later football still applies but it’s that prayer in our hearts that’s kept us alive.
So I’m an old man standing in His church, saying the Lord‘s prayer until it hurts. So I’m old man, but a blessed man. …
